Lap counter with timer

Set a target, tap Lap each time round, and see the count, every lap time and how far you have to go. It stops itself and beeps when you hit the target.

Count laps and time them in one tap

A plain tally counter tells you how many laps you've done; a lap timer tells you how long each took. This page does both from the same press. Start the clock, tap Lap (or L) each time you pass your mark, and the big number climbs toward your target while the table below logs each lap and split.

Pick a target with the quick buttons or type your own. When the last lap is recorded the stopwatch stops on its own, so the final time is exact even if you're out of breath. Turn on Sound for a beep on each lap and a longer tone at the finish. Leave the target empty to count without a limit.

Track figures are for lane 1 of a standard 400 m track (World Athletics rules); outer lanes are longer, so use lane 1 or a measured loop for exact distances. A mile on a 400 m track is 4 laps plus about 9 m.

What counts as a good lap time?

It depends entirely on the activity and distance, so compare against yourself rather than a chart. The lap table shows each lap against the previous one and against your average, and the consistency figure (coefficient of variation) tells you how even your pacing was. To turn a goal time into target lap times, use the pace and lap time calculator; to see ahead/behind against that goal live, use the split timer. For a big readout on a poolside tablet, try the full screen stopwatch.

Questions people ask

How does the lap counter work?

Start the stopwatch, then tap Lap or press L each time you complete a lap. The counter shows laps done out of your target, and each lap time and split is logged. When you reach the target, the stopwatch stops automatically.

Can I count laps without a target?

Yes. Clear the target box (or set it to 0) and the counter keeps counting with no limit.

How many laps of a track is a mile?

On a standard 400 m track, a mile (1,609.34 m) is four laps of lane 1 plus about 9.3 m. Four laps alone is 1,600 m.

How many lengths of a pool is a mile?

About 64.4 lengths of a 25 m pool or 32.2 lengths of a 50 m pool. In a 25-yard pool a full mile (1,760 yards) is 70.4 lengths; the shorter “swimmer’s mile” used in US competition is 1,650 yards, or 66 lengths.

What does lap mean on a timer?

Pressing Lap records the time of the segment just finished while the timer keeps running. The lap time is the time since the previous lap press; the split is the total since the start.

Does it keep counting if my phone screen locks?

The time stays correct because it is computed from timestamps. While the stopwatch runs, the page also asks supporting browsers to keep the screen awake so you can keep tapping.
